![]() ![]() The exhibition greatly captured the subjectivity and broad range of what ‘surrealist art’ really is. There was no queue and it was easy to get in. With help from the friendly employees, my friend and I were guided to our destination of the ‘Surrealism Beyond Borders’ exhibition. Upon entering the Tate Modern, there are many routes you can take to enter different exhibitions. There's a solid pub, the Founder's Arms, not three minutes from Tate to have a relaxing lunch or drink after your visit. You can reach Tate Modern by tube (less than 10 minutes from Blackfriars tube station on the other side of the river) or by crossing the Thames via the Millennium Bridge. Or, a large venue to display very little. It's a beautiful building full of unintentionally hilarious "art". There are shops on every floor and a café on the top level.Ī few years ago Tate Modern added a second building to the museum, devoted to contemporary art and art installations, often multi-media ones. These cost money (over UKP 20 a piece), and you can't take photos! Reasons why I never visited one of their temporary exhibitions, especially the latter reason. And then there are, usually two simultaneously, temporary exhibits on a certain painter or period or style. Four large galleries split over several floors are free to visit, and you can take as many photos as you like. The permanent exhibition, ranging from Picasso to people like Beuys or Pollock, is huge. That's the reason I include this museum in almost every trip to London, and I've visited Tate Modern at least five times during the past 20 years. It is a MUST for any art lover who's visiting the British capital, and there's so much to see it's impossible to take it all in in the course of just one visit. Tate Modern, as it's commonly called, is THE most important museum for 20th century art in the whole of the UK.
